The RANGER 4x4 is the New Tool for Big-Game Hunting
A Polaris RANGER vehicle is no stranger to the outdoors. The Cross Mountain Ranch, located near Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is rugged outdoors. Owner Lonny Vanatta is very much at home on the 40,000-acre elk, deer, and antelope hunting ranch. A fleet of Polaris RANGER 4x4 vehicles is just as at-home on the ranch as Vanatta.
"Those things are a life-saver for me," Vanatta told Polaris. "We put them to good use. I bought three of them last year. They beat having to feed a horse.
"We are at 7,000-9,000-foot elevation," Vanatta said. "There are quite a few roads on the 40,000 acres where we use the RANGERs to take two hunters, a guide, and all their gear to where they will start hunting. After a kill, the RANGER weaves around trees, goes over rocks, stumps. anywhere an elk is. There isn't a place these machines won't go. I continue to be amazed."
With the excellent cargo and seating capacity, a RANGER can carry a whole elk in the bed along with the hunters, guide and the related gear. Up to the point of Vanatta's interview with Polaris, RANGER 4x4s carried 68 elk back to camp. "There weren't too many places we couldn't get to," Vanatta said. "And we're talking about mountains."
Because of the challenging terrain of the Cross Mountain Ranch, Vanatta opted for RANGER 4x4 vehicles for the tight turning radius, the off-road ability of the vehicle, and the 3-person seating capacity.
"One of the big selling points [over the competition] is the 3-person capacity," Vanatta said. "One guide can take two hunters. That was a selling point for my business."
Speaking of selling points, a Polaris RANGER vehicle truly sells itself when outdoor enthusiasts experience one. Vanatta agrees. "Several hunters I've had have said they are going home to buy one of these RANGERs," he said. "They are as amazed with them as I am. They are worth every penny I paid for them. I just bought two more a few days ago."
