The new, redesigned RANGER TM is the King of the two-wheel drive class. New for 2005 is the exclusive Lock & RideTM cargo system that carries equipment, gear and loose material better than anyone in the business. This cargo system combines a redesigned, multi-functional cargo box and a full range of PURE Polaris accessories that attach in less than 10 seconds, allowing you to work faster and carry gear more easily. The new, redesigned composite cargo box has a 340 kg capacity, is big enough to hold a standard pallet, has drain holes for wet material and comes standard with a pickup truck style tailgate and self-cleaning hinge for easy dumping of loose materials. With multiple D-rings inside, tie down points outside, and 1 ¼ inch thru-hole mounting points around the entire box, there are hundreds of ways to secure and carry gear and cargo.
No other two-wheel drive utility vehicle is comparable to the off-road comfort or abilities of the RANGER TM. With class leading, long-travel (10.9 cm), dual coil-over shock rear swing-arm suspension, RANGER TM absorbs the deep ruts of farm fields, the hidden rocks in pastures and any other rough terrain covering large acreage. The suspension also keeps the vehicle well above ground with a class leading 18.3 cm of ground clearance. With the MacPherson strut, class-leading long-travel (10.9 cm) independent front suspension matched to the tasks of virtually any landscape, it's easy to see why RANGER TM is the smoothest riding two-wheel drive utility vehicle.
The RANGER TM also comes standard with a lockable rear differential. By simply moving a dash-mounted lever, the system can be engaged for rough terrain or disengaged for turf-friendly use.
At the heart of the RANGER TM is a hi-torque, four cycle, V-twin cylinder, 4-stroke air-cooled Polaris 653cc engine. This 18 horsepower engine delivers approximately 44% percent more power than engines in other comparable two-wheel drive utility vehicles. This impressive power plant delivers class leading payload, cargo, towing and top speed through an automatic Polaris Variable Transmission (PVT). The PVT requires no shifting and responds to both engine RPM and vehicle torque requirements for superior power transfer in all riding conditions. In all, over 1 million PVTs have been built.
According to Marc Tullemans, Product Manager, "the smoothest riding characteristics of the suspension are maintained even when carrying heavy loads." The RANGER TM has a total payload capacity of 614 kg, and can tow loads up to 455 kg with a new, 5.1 cm receiver hitch. When it comes time to bring the loaded vehicle to a stop, the four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes make it effortless. When up before dawn or working past the daylight hours, the two, dual-beam, 35-watt halogen headlamps light the way. Tail and brake lights are standard equipment as well.
